A top topic this year is citizen energy. The central question is how regional and local players can work together to advance the energy transition on their own doorstep. "It is enormously important that citizens can continue to help shape the energy transition," GSL Chair Rosa Hemmers said at the opening. "Cooperation between companies, municipalities and citizens ensures a high level of acceptance of renewable energies and lets everyone benefit."
Cooperation partner and host of this year's conference are Stadtwerke Münster, as a long-standing provider of green electricity with Grüner Strom-Label. In the north of Westphalia, the Stadtwerke play a central role as a regional energy supplier for the local energy turnaround. "Energy transition can only run with local responsibility. With the opportunity to participate in our wind turbines via the cooperative, we are turning our customers, the people living near the wind turbines and, in general, all interested Münster citizens into players in the energy turnaround. This commitment really gives the energy turnaround a tailwind," says Dr. Henning Müller-Tengelmann, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Münster.
As a further cooperation partner, the Grüner Strom Label e.V. is supported by the EnergyAgency.NRW with its expertise and network. "Innovation is a key driver of the energy transition. Essential to its success is a lively exchange between the various players in the energy transition. The state of NRW recognized this early on and, with the EnergyAgency.NRW, has now established a central platform for networking the players in the energy turnaround for 25 years. The innovation conference taking place today is part of the culture of innovation in NRW", stated Dr. Frank-Michael Baumann, Managing Director of the EnergyAgency.NRW.
