Bonn, July 17, 2024: The 2023 Activity Report summarizes the successes and developments of the past year. But also more: the report marks a Special anniversary: Before 25 yearsIn 1998, Grüner Strom Label e.V. began its pioneering work in the certification of green electricity. 25 years later, the sales volumes of green electricity with the Grüner Strom-Label and biogas with the Grünes Gas-Label have reached a high level. In 2023, 2.3 terawatt hours of green electricity were consumed with the Grüner Strom-Label. Sales thus once again reached a record level. In addition, in the same year approx. 54,000 customers supplied with a total of 970 gigawatt hours of green gas-certified biogas be
Added value for the energy transition
The high electricity and gas sales volumes mean that there has been increased investment in the energy transition. For every kilowatt hour of green electricity or biogas consumed, a fixed amount flows into innovative energy transition projects in various areas, including photovoltaics, the mobility transition and energy efficiency. This is the core criterion of the two seals of approval. Certified tariffs are usually reviewed every two years, which is why projects from 2021 were evaluated most recently. In 2021, 129 energy transition projects were funded with around 4.5 million euros. Thanks to the long-standing support of consumers has already invested over 96 million euros in more than 1,900 ecologically valuable projects since the start of its certification work be
As part of the anniversary, we not only looked back on our successes, but also intensively discussed and shaped the future of the energy transition: "Looking back on the past year, we are proud of the results of 25 years of energy transition with and through our association and the associated labels. 2023 marked a milestone for our association," says Dietmar Oeliger, Chairman of the Board of Grüner Strom Label e.V. Oeliger continues: "In 2023, we actively contributed to driving forward the expansion of renewable energies through innovative projects and valuable partnerships. This is still necessary because fossil coal, gas and oil still account for too large a share of Germany's and Europe's energy supply. But their importance is rapidly diminishing and that is a very good signal, because climate change cannot be delayed."
Commitment to the SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are internationally agreed goals that serve as a guideline for stakeholders from politics, business and civil society - and therefore also for Grüner Strom Label e.V. These goals ensure that activities are environmentally, socially and economically responsible. The alignment of Grüner Strom Label e.V. with the SDGs creates a actively contributing to overcoming global challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity achieved. The activity report presents both the detailed effects of the two eco-energy labels as well as the sustainability effects of internal office activities.
