In the 2021 certification period, 39 green electricity products from 18 energy providers have been awarded the Green Electricity Label. Every two years, it must be demonstrated that the criteria of the label are met. On the basis of the expert reports prepared, which were validated by the independent institute GUTcert, we carried out the certification at the end of November 2021.
More than 78 green electricity products have now been awarded the seal of approval.
The Grüner Strom-Label obliges energy providers to invest a fixed amount per kilowatt hour consumed in energy transition projects. By promoting various projects, such as photovoltaic and wind power plants, the nature-compatible and decentralized expansion of renewable energies is advanced. As part of the certifications, more than 1,600 projects have already been supported with more than 80 million euros since 1999. Co-financing with green electricity subsidies has triggered total investments of more than 479 million euros in energy transition projects. Since this mostly involves partial funding of projects, the money actually invested is about 5.5 times higher.
Stadtwerke Nürtingen went through the full testing procedure for the first time this year. With its "Bienenstrom" tariff, Stadtwerke Nürtingen is countering insect mortality by cultivating species-rich flowering areas throughout Germany.
