Alnatura, energy provider Fair Trade Power and solar power supplier Sunnic Lighthouse GmbH have signed the Supplying over 150 organic markets with green electricity from Germany contractually agreed until 2028. The organic supermarkets receive around 22.4 GWh of solar power every year according to a predicted delivery schedule for the next day. This creates an additional benefit for the energy transition, because: Fair Trade Power's green electricity is certified with the Grüner Strom-Label. This means that the company supports innovative energy transition projects with a fixed amount per kilowatt hour of green electricity consumed by Alnatura.
Fair Trade Power is delighted to be working with a company that shares the vision of offering sustainable products at fair prices. Coralie Spitzner, Co-Managing Director of the energy providerfinds the following words for this: "As a pioneer among organic markets, Alnatura has created a sustainable alternative to an existing, purely commercially oriented industry. Fair Trade Power takes this example as inspiration for the changes we will bring about in the energy market."
The long term of the new contract is also a plus for Fair Trade Power: it allows the energy provider to invest in the expansion of renewable energies with financial security.
Thinking eco holistically
Even before signing the new contract with green electricity provider Fair Trade Power, Alnatura was already committed to resource efficiency in its stores: a study by the EHI Retail Institute in 2022 found that Alnatura stores consume an average of eleven percent less energy than other supermarkets of the same size. The new supply of certified green electricity is part of these efforts to achieve greater sustainability.
Alnatura Managing Director Hüge commented: "As a company that exclusively produces and sells organic food, sustainable and climate-friendly action is a matter of course for Alnatura. We are therefore delighted that Fair Trade Power has been supplying us with green electricity, which is generated at two locations in Germany, since this year. Together with our partners, we are thus making an active contribution to the energy transition."
The green electricity for Alnatura comes from two photovoltaic parks located in Landsberg, Saxony-Anhalt, and in Wiesau, Bavaria.
Insights into the energy transition projects
Certification with the Grüner Strom-Label guarantees that the electricity purchased by Alnatura is actually green electricity with added value for the energy transition. With the investment commitment of the seal of approval, energy provider Fair Trade Power promoted a Solar project of the mechanical engineering company K. Ley in Hesse and supported the campaign 1TP8Renewable instead of atomicwhich campaigns against populist arguments for the continued operation of nuclear power plants. A further amount flows into the Energy Transition Fundwhich is managed by the Grüner Strom Label e.V. office.
By choosing a certified green electricity contract, both companies and private consumers have the opportunity to make a contribution to the energy transition with their electricity tariff. Anyone still looking for a suitable tariff can find out more about Vergleich-dich-gruen - The comparison portal of the environmental associations inform.
