After the events of 2020 so far, a look back at 2019 seems like a glimpse into another time. Nevertheless, we have an exciting year behind us from a climate policy perspective: Without the ongoing protests around opencast lignite mining in Germany, there would probably be no coal phase-out law.
The globally growing Fridays for Future movement brought the climate debate into the most diverse parts of social life. From social media to children's and teenagers' rooms, to schools, to the lunch table, to the streets! Ultimately, several cities and municipalities around the world declared a climate emergency. Even in the European Union's aid packages to deal with the economic consequences of the pandemic, climate policy concerns are making their way into the equation. Even if these measures are not enough to stop climate change, they are an encouraging signal: a cross-society climate movement has developed. And it will continue to take to the streets and move society.
In 2019, more green electricity with the Green Electricity Label was sold than ever before. The Green Gas Label also shows signs of growth: Three new label holders have been using the biogas label of the environmental associations since the beginning of the year. Our label holders and customers are helping to create a 100 % renewable energy supply in all sectors and at all levels - nature-compatible, decentralized, citizen-oriented, public welfare-oriented, fair and pollutant-free.
Other topics around the labels Green Electricity and Green gas, examples for Promoted energy transition projects and information about the acting persons of Grüner Strom Label e.V. are summarized in the current activity report. Enjoy reading.
