A new energy transition project shows what sustainable living can look like. In Harreshausen, a town near Darmstadt, the construction of 19 barrier-free bungalows was completed last year as a communal residential park for senior citizens. All 19 roofs were fitted with photovoltaic systems - part of the funding for this forward-looking project was provided by the Grüner Strom Label e.V. energy transition fund.
Better balance sheet & exceeded expectations
Thanks to the well thought-out and sustainable construction method, the energy balance already exceeded all expectations in the first half of the year: Firstly, energy consumption was almost 50 percent lower than originally forecast, mainly due to the efficient heating system selected. Secondly, the use of electricity generated by the photovoltaic systems also exceeded the initial assumptions. Thirdly, a total of 3.5 times more electricity was produced than was consumed in the entire residential park. These successful results are good for both the environment and the residents' wallets. They also receive discounted green electricity tariffs via a tenant electricity offer and thus benefit from the PV systems on their new homes.
A project with multiple objectives
The energy transition project in Harreshausen is characterized by the fact that it pursues and combines both social and sustainable goals. Accordingly, the bungalow park enables cooperative living and community life for senior citizens. When building the residential park, great importance was attached to high energy efficiency, ecological materials and options for e-mobility and photovoltaics. This project, which is well worth supporting, was created through the collaboration between Lebensraum Baugenossenschaft e.G. and Christliches Sozialwerk Harreshausen e.V.
How does the energy transition fund work?
The Grüner Strom Label association certifies green electricity and biogas tariffs from energy suppliers on the basis of demanding criteria. The core criterion of both labels is that energy suppliers undertake to invest a fixed amount per kilowatt hour consumed in the expansion of renewable energies. These investments can either be made in the supplier's own expansion projects or in the Energy Transition Fund flow. The fund can then be used to support a wide range of projects that make a valuable contribution to the energy transition. A total of over 1,800 innovative projects have been supported to date. One of these is also the PV system at the Senior:innen residential home in Harreshausen.
Certified tariffs: Your contribution to the energy transition
The energy transition depends on forward-looking local projects that benefit people and the environment. Even choosing a certified green electricity or biogas tariff can make a significant contribution to the expansion of renewables. The PV project in Harreshausen is an excellent example of how you can effectively support the energy transition yourself. On our comparison portal https://vergleich-dich-gruen.de/ there are certified green electricity and biogas tariffs with which you can promote the energy transition through your own energy consumption.
