Since 1.1.2024, the Luise Händlmaier GmbH certified green electricity with the Grüner Strom-Label and is thus committed to the energy transition. The "FairBusiness" tariff from the Munich-based green energy provider Fair Trade Power guaranteed 100 percent electricity from renewable energy sources and investments in the expansion of renewable energies. Händlmaier is investing more than one million euros to expand the Regensburg site and triple its production capacity. The plant will be completely converted to green electricity, including the installation of 10,000 square meters of solar modules on the factory buildings.
"We are delighted to announce that Händlmaier will be switching to 100%-certified green electricity from Fair Trade Power from 2024."so Händlmaier Managing Director Franz Wunderlich. "This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable production and environmental protection. At Händlmaier, we firmly believe that the path to a sustainable future is paved through responsible action and innovative measures. Switching to Fair Trade Power is another step in our journey to make a positive impact on the environment while providing our customers with the highest quality products. We are proud to contribute to a greener future and look forward to sharing this development with our valued customers."
Solar power from the region
In future, the green electricity provider Fair Trade Power, whose entire portfolio is already certified with the Grüner Strom-Label, will obtain its electricity from the Alteglofsheim photovoltaic park in the district of Regensburg. Fair Trade Power also supplies Händlmaier, which is also based in Regensburg and is only 20 kilometers away. With a planned output of 5.5 megawatts peak, the plant produces enough electricity to supply the entire production facility with solar energy. Short distances are not only an advantage for food, but also for the power supplyRegional electricity means fewer line losses, strengthening of the local economy, increased security of supply and democratization of the electricity market.
Händlmaier stands for the high quality of its products and is now also applying its quality standards to the electricity used. Fair Trade Power Managing Director Coralie Spitzner says: "It's great for us to supply the well-known, traditional Händlmaier brand. It is an important figurehead for us to convince other companies of our genuine renewable energy in the future."
Expansion of renewables guaranteed by the Grüner Strom-Label
Tariffs with Grüner Strom-Label not only guarantee an environmentally friendly energy supply, but also contribute a fixed amount per kilowatt hour consumed to the expansion of renewable energies. Consumers, like Händlmaier, support various projects that are needed for a cross-sector energy transition through their energy purchases. Over 90 million euros have already been invested, making it possible to support over 1,800 ecologically valuable projects. The Grüner Strom-Label is backed by NABU, DUH, BUND and other civil society organizations.
The switch to certified green electricity is not only a milestone for Händlmaier, but also an inspiring example for other companies.
