50,000 euros from the Green Electricity Certification will be invested in an integrative concept of biothan GmbH. The energy transition project consists of the simultaneous generation of biogas and green electricity. Biogas is produced from regional residual materials and the operation of the plant is ensured with green electricity.
Since 2013, Biothan GmbH has been operating a remarkable plant for the production of bio natural gas on the Finkenberg. The disposal of biogenic residues from citizens and regional farmers and the simultaneous generation of regenerative energy generate a closed cycle and have already generated a lot of positive feedback. Soon, a new photovoltaic system will generate electricity for the biogas plant. The integrative concept also convinced RhönEnergie, which provided 50,000 euros for the new photovoltaic system in August of this year.
The subsidies come from the green electricity certified tariff Rhönstrom Nature GSL of RhönEnergie. Energy suppliers with this seal of approval commit to investing a fixed amount of cents per kilowatt hour consumed in energy transition projects. In this way, customers of Green Electricity-certified tariffs help to expand renewable energies.
"The photovoltaic system, which we use to generate part of the operating electricity, sensibly rounds off the regenerative approach," says Biothan managing director Dr. Sebastian Tews with pleasure. The subsidized photovoltaic system on the roofs of the fermentation halls will generate 281 kW in the future and around 300,000 kWh of solar energy per year.
