With the Aktiv-Stadthaus in the center of Frankfurt, Mainova AG has promoted a model of energy-efficient living. ABG FRANKFURT HOLDING, a partner company of Mainova AG, had the apartment building with 74 residential units built in such a way that it generates more electricity per year than its residents consume.
- Promotion: approx. 330.000 €
- Date of promotion: 2015
- Subject of the promotion: PV façade system (118 kWp), battery storage (Li-ion battery 250 kWh capacity), visualization/displays, electric charging stations.
- Destination: Promotion of innovative components for the use of renewable energies in a model building for energy-efficient living
The state-of-the-art building is powered by 350 photovoltaic modules on the facade and around 780 modules on the roof; the surpluses are stored in a battery in the basement. Electric vehicles are available there, which can also be used by the residents through a car-sharing offer. Via a display, tenants can compare their energy consumption with the current solar power generation.
The savings in energy consumption come primarily from the well-insulated building envelope, efficient building technology, the use of renewable energies and economical household appliances. Heat and hot water are provided by a heat pump that is powered by the solar electricity generated. The heat pump uses the nearby sewer as a heat source.
Federal Minister for the Environment Barbara Hendricks counts the Aktiv-Stadthaus among her Efficiency House Plus network initiative and performed the opening together with Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann. The Aktiv-Stadthaus in Frankfurt am Main was built by the Mainova AG with subsidies from its Green Electricity-certified product Mainova Grünstrom. Antje Fehr from Grüner Strom Label e.V. took a look at the innovative pilot project of energy-efficient living and attended the ceremonial opening.
