Bonn/Paderborn, May 6, 2021 - Paderborn-based energy supplier WestfalenWIND Strom and Grüner Strom Label e.V. are united by the same drive: to advance the energy transition together. For this reason, the WWS Hochstift tariff, which applies throughout East Westphalia, and the WWS Plus Germany tariff of the regionally committed energy supplier have been awarded the Green Electricity Label since January 1, 2021.
Every two years, the two tariffs are reviewed according to a detailed and demanding catalog of criteria. The label's sponsors include the major environmental associations Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU), Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND) and Deutscher Naturschutzring (DNR), as well as consumer associations and peace initiatives. Together, they are continuously developing the certification criteria of the Green Electricity Label.
Certification was a particular concern for WestfalenWIND Strom. "Many of our customers have consciously found their way to us because they want to support and accelerate the expansion of renewable energies. We pay special tribute to this wish through the demanding certification by the eco-electricity label of the environmental associations," says Dr. Andreas Schmitt, Managing Director of WestfalenWIND Strom.
The core criterion of the Grüner Strom-Label is the promotion of new energy transition projects, such as photovoltaic systems, wind turbines and energy efficiency, e-mobility or educational measures. So far, more than 1,400 energy transition projects have been co-financed and implemented nationwide with over 75 million euros.
"For more than 20 years, we have been committed to green energy that truly advances the energy transition," explains Daniel Craffonara, Managing Director of Grüner Strom Label e.V. "With the Grüner Strom Label, we guarantee 100 % green electricity from renewable sources and investment in the energy transition. This creates transparency and trust for consumers."
Customers of the WWS Hochstift tariff thus support the expansion of renewable energies around Paderborn and strengthen the region's economic power. The tariff is available in almost all of East Westphalia. The energy transition can be supported beyond the region by purchasing the nationwide WWS Plus tariff.
