In Wieblinger Weg, each rental party can be supplied with electricity from a photovoltaic system and a lithium-ion battery storage system. The remaining electricity is supplied from the public grid. A quarter of this residual electricity is Green Electricity certified green electricity. This means that subsidies are demonstrably flowing into the expansion of renewable energies in the region.

Tenants can purchase an electricity product with two tariffs: Direct power purchase from the PV system on the roof of the rental house and green power purchase from the public power grid. Since the direct electricity purchase from the PV system is cheaper, it offers the customer incentives to use the solar electricity or to adjust his consumption behavior to the solar production. A positive side effect is that the load on the grid is reduced.

With the battery storage system, excess energy produced can be stored and called up as needed, especially in low-sun evening hours. The heat supply comes from climate-friendly district heating, 20 % of which comes from renewable energies. Tenants are given access to an online energy monitoring system where they can track electricity, heat and water consumption.

With the tenant electricity model, tenants can participate in and benefit from the local energy transition. Housing associations, managers and private landlords, in turn, can use the model to offer their electricity from their own roofs. The concept also convinced the judges at the GreenTec Awards. It is nominated as one of ten projects in the "Building & Living" category for Europe's most important business and environmental award.
