- Promotion: 100 euros per purchase of a more efficient A+++ refrigerator.
- Date of promotion: since 2014
- Subject of the promotion: Financial support for the replacement of old refrigerators with more efficient models and energy consultations.
- Destination: Promote awareness of energy conservation and permanently reduce the financial burden via the use of more energy-efficient appliances in low-income households.
The subsidy under the efficiency program has already been running since 2014. Consumers receive 150 euros from Caritas Konstanz for replacing an old refrigerator with a new, energy-efficient appliance upon presentation of a disposal receipt for the old appliance.
If the consumer is also a customer of Stadtwerke Konstanz, he or she receives a further subsidy of 100 euros. The money comes from the certification of the green electricity products SeeEnergie ÖkostromPlus and Enspire Energie with the Green Electricity seal of approval. Energy suppliers that offer a Green Electricity-certified green electricity product are obliged to invest a fixed subsidy amount per kilowatt hour sold in energy transition projects.
Between 2014 and August 2015, fourteen customers took advantage of the 'Refrigerator Exchange'. Thanks to the support program, Caritas staff have already been able to offer free electricity-saving advice to more than 2,300 households in the Constance district.
In a nationwide comparison, the program has been much better received due to the additional funding for refrigerators, according to Christoph Krüßmann of Caritas Konstanz.
By exchanging their refrigerators, the households each save an average of around 400 kWh, or about 115 euros a year. Stadtwerke Konstanz and Caritas extended the efficiency program to give more low-income households the opportunity to save electricity and money.
