The fact that this summer the temperatures are again much too high cannot be ignored. According to the German Weather Service, the average temperature in July was 2.3 degrees too high. The Rhine is running out of water and our forests are burning. The urgent need for action is also demonstrated again by the ever earlier dated Earth Overload Day. The good news is that the share of green electricity increased in the first half of the year, so that almost half of electricity production in the first six months came from renewable sources.
To further promote the expansion of renewable energies, a new set of criteria for the Grünes Gas-Label has come into force. The new core criterion of the label is a mandatory support component for energy transition projects. In addition, the provider criteria have been tightened: after Dec. 31, 2026, no energy provider that carries, or wishes to carry, a Green Gas or Green Electricity certified tariff may be involved in coal-fired power plants. Nor will any company receive a seal of approval if it still has a stake in a nuclear power plant today. To show that nuclear energy is neither climate-friendly nor cheap or safe, Grüner Strom Label e.V. supports the #ErneuerbarStattAtomar campaign, which clarifies common myths.
