Bonn, February 23, 2015. Grüner Strom Label e.V. (GSL) joins the "Biogas Partnership" platform of the German Energy Agency (dena). Both organizations signed an agreement to this effect. The project currently brings together around 60 players in the biogas industry to support the injection of biogas into the natural gas grid as part of the future energy mix. GSL e.V., which awards the Green Gas seal of approval for biogas products, will contribute its expertise from biogas certification to this network with immediate effect.
"As a storable renewable energy source, biogas is an important pillar of the energy transition and the full supply of renewable energies," explains GSL Chair Rosa Hemmers. "In the biogas partnership, we will work to ensure that biogas is produced as environmentally friendly as possible at all processing stages and used efficiently. We want to promote the use of alternative energy crops and the use of residual materials and stimulate the biogas market through joint measures with our partners. We are also pursuing these goals with our biogas certification."
Since the beginning of 2014, Grüner Strom Label e.V. has certified biogas products with the Grünes Gas-Label. The label identifies biogas that is produced from renewable raw materials or biogenic residues in an ecologically compatible manner.
"Credibility and transparency are decisive criteria in communicating with customers and consumers when purchasing renewable energy sources such as biomethane," emphasizes Oliver Frank, Head of Renewable Energies at dena. "The Green Gas seal of approval makes an important contribution to greater public acceptance of biogas. Building on this, we would like to work together in the biogas partnership in the future to convince consumers of the ecological added value of biomethane."
The German Energy Agency developed the biogaspartner.de platform in 2007 with partners from the agricultural and energy industries. The network brings together market players from the entire biogas sector and supports them in their activities to shape the market. dena assumes the role of neutral moderator and provides a platform for information gathering and processing as well as its dissemination.
