How does a water cycle work and where does the wind blow the most? How does photosynthesis work? How long will our finite energy sources last and which country produces how much carbon dioxide per capita? Such topics and many others can now be explored and discovered by the pupils of the school at Ruhner Berg in Marnitz, partly independently, with the help of 21 special material boxes.
The material boxes differ thematically and thus also in terms of content. They contain diverse and different experiments and learning games. The Heidelberg University of Education was also involved in the development of the material boxes. The boxes are used in regular lessons in grades 4 to 10.
After prior review, the teaching staff was in favor of the purchase. The VRD Foundation for Renewable Energies sought sponsors to finance the learning material. "We then approached Grüner Strom Label e.V., as we have been cooperating with each other in the field of education for some time," explained VRD Managing Director Dr. Georg Eysel-Zahl.
Grüner Strom Label e.V. awards the green electricity label Grüner Strom. It guarantees fixed subsidies per certified kilowatt hour of green electricity, which are invested in energy transition projects. Now WEMAG came into play, which has its green electricity product 'wemio-Ökoaktivstrom' certified according to Green Electricity standards. WEMAG agreed to contribute to the financing of the teaching materials from its Green Electricity funding pot and to pay half of the 2,500 euros.
In this way, the students become 'energy experts' and can better classify media reports. As a result, they are able to independently discuss issues related to the energy transition.
The school at Ruhner Berg in Marnitz is the first to be supplied with material boxes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Other schools have already signaled strong interest.
