Bonn/Nürtingen, June 16, 2020. Making landscapes bloom with energy - that is the motto of Bienenwärme. Bienenwärme is the new eco-gas product of the Bienenstrom brand. Customers use their energy consumption to finance, among other things, the cultivation of species-rich flowering areas. This creates new habitat for bees, other insects and wildlife. The new eco-gas product from Stadtwerke Nürtingen consists of at least ten percent high-quality biogas and is certified by the Grüner Strom Label e.V. association.

"Biogas is an important pillar of the energy transition if it comes from sustainable sources and is produced in an environmentally friendly way," explains Dietmar Oeliger, chairman of Grüner Strom Label e.V. and NABU representative in the association. "At the same time, bee heat promotes nature conservation and energy transition projects. All this is regularly checked and guaranteed by the Grünes Gas-Label. This is how nature-compatible energy transition works." Stadtwerke Nürtingen now wants to transfer the established Bienenstrom concept to the sale of eco-gas. Bienenwärme is aimed at all customers with a natural gas heating system. Analogous to the green electricity product Bienenstrom, there is also a surcharge for eco-gas, the Blühhilfe contribution, which finances the cultivation and maintenance of species-rich flowering areas. It amounts to 0.2 cents (incl. 19 percent VAT) per kilowatt hour of green gas consumed.

With Bienenwärme, customers receive CO2-neutral natural gas with ten percent, twenty percent biogas admixture or one hundred percent biogas from residual materials, depending on their choice. Certification of Bienenwärme has already been successfully carried out by the supporting association Grüner Strom Label e.V.. It is the first eco-gas product to create habitats for plants and insects. Bienenwärme can now be requested throughout Germany at www.bienenstrom.de/bienenwaerme.

Bienenwärme works according to the proven concept of the green electricity product Bienenstrom. More than 300,000 square meters of arable land have already been made to bloom. In the cooperative ventures with biogas farmers, insect-unfriendly pure crops such as corn are replaced by wild plant mixtures. These can be utilized like other substrate in the biogas plant. The resulting loss in yield compared to the utilization of corn substrate is compensated by the flowering aid contributions. A double benefit for man and nature. With the sale of bee electricity, one cent per kilowatt hour of green electricity consumed flows into the project as a Blühhilfe contribution. From January 1, 2021, Bienenstrom with the Grüner Strom-Label will also carry the green electricity label of the environmental associations.
