Two weeks ago it became known that wolf offspring had been sighted in NRW for the first time. In Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, things are somewhat different. Already since the 1960s, numerous visitors have been drawn to the game park located there to observe the wolf, but also a variety of other exciting wild animals. In such a long time, it's not just the animals that get old. In combination with the European Regional Development Fund, the Wildlife Park's Friends Association and WEMAG, more than 214 lighting units were replaced in 2017, which the wildlife park says will save a total of 153 tons of CO2 over its lifetime.
The program is funded by WEMAG with around 4,250 euros. With the Grüner Strom-Label, energy providers undertake to invest a fixed amount per kilowatt hour of electricity consumed in energy transition projects for the certified green electricity tariff.
WEMAG's green electricity tariff consists of 100 percent renewable energy and is certified by Grüner Strom Label e.V.. In addition, according to its own information, WEMAG has already planted over 41ha of climate forests and saved 98,000 tons of CO2. For WEMAG CEO Caspar Baumgart, it is also about a sense of local responsibility: "As a municipal company, we take responsibility for the region. Together with our employees and partners, we are committed to climate protection."
