Bonn, March 18, 2020. Grünes Gas-Label was able to certify over 390 million kilowatt hours of gas in 2019. Here, the share of biomethane was about 16.7 percent. In absolute terms, this means that almost 66 million kilowatt hours of biogas were produced according to the most demanding environmental criteria. Compared with the previous year, this is an increase of around 25 percent. The number of customers purchasing biogas with Grünes Gas-Label also rose to over 29,000.
Meanwhile, six energy providers have biogas tariffs certified with the Grünes Gas-Label. You can find an overview of these here: www.gruenerstromlabel.de/gruenes-gas/biogas-beziehen/The Green Gas-certified products guarantee environmentally compatible biogas production throughout the entire production chain. The biogas is produced from biogenic residual materials, such as kitchen waste, green waste or waste from the organic waste garbage can, as well as sewage sludge. In the annual certification process, emphasis is also placed on regional processing of the raw materials in order to prevent long transport routes, save CO2 emissions and strengthen regional value creation.
Green gas suppliers also expect strong growth in 2020: According to preliminary estimates, total gas sales will rise to more than 440 million kilowatt hours, which would correspond to an increase of 12 percent. The share of biomethane produced in an environmentally compatible manner is expected to be just under 77 million kilowatt hours, around 17 percent.
