Heidelberg/Bonn, 13.09.2017. The Bürgerstrom of the green electricity provider Bürgerwerke is now certified with the Grüner Strom-Label. The green electricity label proves that Bürgerwerke supplies 100 % genuine green electricity from renewable energy sources and demonstrates the ecological added value. The label is only awarded to electricity products whose suppliers demonstrably invest in the expansion of renewable energy plants and innovative energy projects. Thus, the core criterion of the certification is that the Bürgerwerke promote the expansion of renewable energies with a fixed amount per kilowatt hour supplied.

Independent experts regularly check all electricity tariffs certified by Grüner Strom Label e.V. for compliance with the criteria. In addition to the 100 % renewable power quality and guaranteed investments, transparent use of customer funds and complete independence from the coal and nuclear industries must also be demonstrated. "For us, it was a great concern to obtain the green electricity label with the strictest criteria for our citizen electricity. This means that our customers can be sure that their money is being used effectively for the energy turnaround," says a delighted Bürgerwerke board member Kai Hock.

The Grüner Strom-Label is recommended and supported by leading environmental and consumer associations. It was founded in 1998 as Germany's first green electricity label and certifies according to the highest environmental standards. The guaranteed investments have enabled more than 1,200 energy transition projects to be realized and financed to date. Daniel Craffonara, Managing Director of Grüner Strom Label e.V., is also pleased to be able to recommend another sustainable electricity product: "The umbrella cooperative of the Bürgerwerke is also for us a completely new concept of green electricity supplier, which is fully owned by energy cooperatives and thus by citizens."
