The funding for the citizens' bus in Murg, a municipality with a population of around 7,000 near the Swiss border, came from customers of the Grüner Strom-certified green electricity product 'NaturEnergie Goldof Energiedienst AG. The green electricity label guarantees that for every kilowatt hour consumed, a fixed amount is invested by the energy provider in nature-friendly energy transition projects.
The initiative Murg in transition has been committed to the environmentally friendly further development of the city since 2013. In the mobility group, for example, there was increased support for the e-citizen bus.
The citizens' bus is driven by volunteers and significantly improves the accessibility of the local districts. In addition to low energy and resource consumption, transportation thus also has a strong social component for passengers. The initiative also supports private households in the community with tips on how to save energy in their daily lives. Over 5,000 passengers have already taken advantage of the e-citizen bus. The e-bus has been running since September 2016 - of course with Green Electricity-certified green electricity.
