Who are you and when did you join the Grüner Strom Label e.V. team?
I'm Mia, 21 years old and a student in Bonn. I've been part of the Grüner Strom Label e.V. team for a little over a year now.
Which area of the association do you work in and what motivates you?
As part of the communications department, I work in the online area. This means that everything that revolves around social media is on my desk. I like that it's very creative work and that I'm always up to date. And it's nice to work in a team with whom you get on really well and often have a laugh.
To what extent has the energy transition been part of your life so far?
I think the topic is totally worth supporting and I also volunteer for the energy transition in various places. It's very rewarding when you see how much is happening and changing everywhere at the same time. I find community energy projects in particular very useful and recommendable because I share the participatory idea of citizen-owned energy.
How do you think society could talk better about the energy transition as a major challenge of our time?
There is a lot of room for improvement. MORE empathy means reaching out to people, listening, telling stories of hope and the future and allaying fears. More justice means thinking more socially and globally, distributing the opportunities of the energy transition fairly and leaving no one behind. With more science, facts can receive more attention again. Communicating these in a way that is understandable and relevant to everyday life in order to encourage collective action without appearing technocratic or overwhelming plays a major role. All of this can make a contribution, but there is still a lot to do.
Do you think that people's awareness of sustainable energy sources has changed in recent years? If so, in what way?
Yes, I do believe that. Representative surveys, for example, repeatedly show that around two thirds of people in Germany support the energy transition. In addition, the demand for green electricity is increasing and at the same time many people are taking part in protests against fossil fuels. So far, so good, but important educational work is still needed to counteract disinformation in particular.
Which platform (podcast, Instagram, LinkedIn...) do you prefer to use to communicate and why?
I use Instagram by far the most, but I find the latest developments on the platform problematic. I really like podcasts, but rarely listen to them myself due to time constraints, even though they are a good format. Thinking bigger, I also think films are a great way to approach a topic in a different, artistic way.
