The Grüner Strom-Label supports the Enspire Award of the Stadtwerke Konstanz again in 2017. The prize, established in 2014, is endowed with 5,000 euros and is again looking for an energy project in emerging or developing countries. On site, the framework conditions for a sustainable development of electricity supply are promoted. Enspire, the nationwide green electricity tariff, carries the Grüner Strom-Label. Green power products with Grüner Strom-Label set aside a small subsidy amount per kilowatt hour consumed, which is then invested in energy transition projects.
Among other projects, Stadtwerke Konstanz uses the funding for the annual competition in the spirit of development cooperation. Customers of the green electricity Enspire Energie thus indirectly help to promote climate protection and electricity production from renewable resources. The projects should have pilot character, serve the technology transfer and contain a social-ecological component. The investment amount must exceed 5,000. In general, both legal entities and registered associations can apply.
Last year, the winner was the Bintumani Germany-Sierra Leone association, which installed a total of 52 PV systems in the small village of Meni Curve. These are networked as a smart grid and enable the villagers to trade the surplus of their self-generated solar power (see our news from February 2017).
A three-member jury selects the winner from the projects that apply. This year, it is composed of Marion Hammerl, managing director of the Lake Constance Foundation in Radolfzell, Hans-Josef Fell, former member of the Bundestag and author of the EEG bill, and physicist and environmental economist Dr. Dietrich Brockhagen.
