This year, four more electric buses are to be added to the bus fleet in Münster for use in the Gievenbeck and Mauritz districts. For this purpose, a new transformer house was installed in March and two charging arms were fitted with a supply unit. The electric buses are scheduled to go into service this summer. In addition, six more e-buses are to supplement the bus fleet in 2021.
Stadtwerke Münster began converting its bus fleet to electric mobility one step at a time back in 2015. This is because Stadtwerke is pursuing an ambitious goal: by 2029, the entire bus fleet used in Münster is to be powered by electricity. The electricity used to operate the buses is genuine green electricity certified with the Green Electricity Label. This creates a double environmental benefit: First, Stadtwerke Münster thus reduces the emissions of its bus fleet, since the e-buses do not rely on diesel fuel. On the other hand, the Green Electricity certification of the green electricity used means that investments are made in the expansion of renewable energies.
