"Almost 60 percent of consumers have never switched their energy provider without moving being the main reason," explains Christoph-Daniel Teusch, a consultant in the sustainability department at VERBRAUCHER INITIATIVE. "They often stay on their expensive basic supply tariff, even though switching providers could not only save money but also protect the environment."
Therefore, the VERBRAUCHER INITIATIVE, together with several environmental associations such as BUND, DNR, EUROSOLAR and NABU, recommends switching to green electricity products with Grüner Strom-Label.
"What green electricity is and what characteristics it must have is not defined by law. So anyone who wants to buy green electricity must be careful not to end up paying for empty advertising promises," says Rosa Hemmers, chairwoman of Grüner Strom Label e.V., which awards the seal of approval. "Consensus of all seven sponsoring associations of the Grüner Strom-Labels is that green electricity must demonstrably trigger investments in the nature-compatible expansion of renewable energies. This makes it the only green electricity label that guarantees such investments and thus stands for genuine green electricity that advances the energy transition."
Independent market observers such as ÖKO-TEST confirm Grüner Strom-Label's strict quality standards. In a broad-based study conducted by the Lower Saxony Consumer Center, Grüner Strom-Label was the only one of twelve green electricity labels examined to achieve the top rating highly recommended receive
Over 70 green electricity products have been awarded the environmental seal, ten of which are available nationwide. Many tariffs are offered by regional municipal utilities. Anyone who wants to switch from the basic supply to green electricity can therefore also ask their supplier about a green electricity-certified tariff. Via a Zip code product search consumers can find the right green electricity product quickly and easily.
