In June, the Energy Transition Award was presented for the first time by Intersolar Europe and its partners. The award honors sustainable energy suppliers in Germany in various categories.
REWAG received the award in the 'Electricity' category. The decisive factor for the award was, among other things, the new green electricity tariff rewario.strom.natur. The special feature of this green electricity product is that all the electricity comes from the nearby Pfaffenstein hydropower plant. This means that customers receive 100 percent green electricity directly from the region - guaranteed by the Green Electricity certification.
Since January 1, the Regensburg-based energy supplier has been purchasing all the electricity generated from the Pfaffenstein hydropower plant for five years. REWAG thus supplies around 11,500 households per year and almost 40 electric charging stations with green electricity from the Danube.
REWAG has been offering green electricity-certified green electricity since 2000, thereby promoting environmentally friendly energy projects. This is because certification with the Grüner Strom-Label not only guarantees 100 percent green electricity, but also the promotion of regenerative generation plants. 0.5 cents per kilowatt hour of the rewario.strom.natur green electricity tariff flows into projects that could not be realized without support - in this way, the Green Electricity certification guarantees an added value that no other German green electricity label offers to the same extent.
Green gas under the microscope
A recently published investigation by the non-profit media company "CORRECTIV" reveals that many German energy suppliers advertise their gas tariffs as environmentally friendly, even though they are far less green than advertised.
