The success of the energy turnaround is only conceivable with a transport turnaround. And a transformation in transportation is also based on the increased use of electromobility. However, if e-vehicles are powered by electricity from fossil-fuel power plants, this will hardly advance the energy transition or climate protection. The traffic turnaround will only make progress if e-mobility is combined with green electricity.

This combination of electromobility and genuine green electricity is taking place in Constance: The total of eleven charging points operated by Stadtwerke Konstanz are powered by Grüner Strom-certified green electricity. The Grüner Strom-Label guarantees that 100% of the electricity used comes from renewable energies and that additional investments are made in energy transition projects, energy efficiency measures and electromobility.

Due to the special commitment to energy transition and climate protection and because of the exemplary combination of electromobility with genuine green electricity, the Agency for Renewable Energies presented Constance as Energy Municipality of the Month for September: "The city of Constance shows how electromobility can advance the energy transition in the transport sector," says Nils Boenigk, Deputy Managing Director of the Agency for Renewable Energies. "Combining electromobility with certified green electricity should be the standard in the e-mobility sector and should always be thought of together."

Climate protection and energy transition are not only on the agenda of the municipal utilities. The city of Constance committed itself to reducing emissions as early as 1992 when it joined the Climate Alliance. "Climate protection is a challenge for municipalities that can only be tackled holistically," explains Mayor Uli Burchardt. "This can be achieved by politicians, citizens and companies working together to implement measures in the electricity, heating and transport sectors. For the transport turnaround, local public transport, electric vehicles and, of course, bicycles are important climate protection tools that we are focusing on here in Constance."
