Bonn, 8.8.2017. Dietmar Oeliger has been elected as the new chairman of Grüner Strom Label e.V. for two years by the general meeting. The transport policy director of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union Germany (NABU) - one of seven supporting associations of the Grüner Strom Label e.V. - thus replaces the long-standing chairperson Rosa Hemmers. Oeliger is a member of the advisory board of the think tank Agora Verkehrswende as well as the National Platform for Electromobility and has served on the board of Grüner Strom Label e.V. since 2005. The dovetailing of energy and transport transition is a core issue for him.
"The success of the energy turnaround is only conceivable with a transport turnaround. And a transport turnaround is also based on the use of electromobility based on credible green electricity, as certified by the Grüner Strom-Label," Oeliger said. "Pedelecs are already enjoying great success, the electric car is getting ready to make a big leap, and freight transport must also be increasingly powered by electricity on the roads in addition to the railways. A prerequisite for this to pay off in terms of environmental and climate protection targets is the increased use of renewable energies in the transport sector."
Oeliger wants to anchor the Green Electricity seal of approval in the growing market for electric mobility as a sign of credible green electricity and make it the standard for all those who do not want to use greenwashing offers.
The former chairwoman Rosa Hemmers of the supporting association EUROSOLAR remains a member of the board. Since 2005, she has significantly expanded the activities of Grüner Strom Label e.V. together with the board and the office. Thanks to her initiative, the association now awards a sister label for green gas in addition to the Green Electricity Label, organizes an annual energy transition forum and has repositioned itself in a future process.
"The requirements for green power offerings are changing as renewables increase in the market and the energy transition expands to all sectors," Hemmers said. "In the beginning, it was mainly about the addition of renewable power generation plants. Today, credible green energy products must increasingly include all sectors of the energy industry. The transport and heating sectors must no longer be left in the shadows, and I'm pleased that Dietmar Oeliger will be able to set new accents."
About Grüner Strom Label e.V.
The Grüner Strom Label e.V. certifies green energy products. The association awards two seals of approval for this purpose: the Green Electricity Label for green electricity with added value and the Green Gas Label for environmentally compatible biogas. The association is backed by seven non-profit environmental and consumer associations and peace organizations. The Green Electricity and Green Gas labels are the only quality seals for green electricity and biogas in Germany that are supported by leading environmental associations.
