Current energy market situation
Fluctuating energy prices due to dynamic markets
How did it come about?
There are several factors that have caused electricity & gas prices to be so high since the beginning of 2022. Basically, the energy sector is a market like any other. The price is regulated by supply and demand. If demand increases or supply decreases, the price increases and vice versa.
Pandemic
After a significant drop in energy demand due to the pandemic, it will increase significantly as early as 2021 due to the removal of the measures and the recovery of the economy.
Failure of power generation plants in other European countries
Another reason for the increased demand is the failure of power generation plants in other European countries. As Germany is part of the European interconnected system, we share the power grid with almost all of mainland Europe. At the end of 2021, there was a situation in France where many French nuclear power plants were not on the grid at the same time due to maintenance and malfunctions. The resulting additional demand had to be covered to a large extent by the German market.
War of aggression against Ukraine
In addition, we could observe a significant reduction in energy supply in 2022. This is mainly due to political crises such as the West's conflict with Russia as a result of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. As Russia, Germany's largest supplier of natural gas, has sharply curtailed its supply, German importers have had to procure gas elsewhere at short notice at considerable additional cost. As natural gas is also used to generate electricity, this development is also reflected in the price of electricity.
Effects on consumers
What does that mean to you?
The above-mentioned aspects lead to energy suppliers raising their prices sharply or even refraining from signing up new customers altogether, as the Security of supply would be jeopardized under certain circumstances.
Unfortunately Customers of ecological energy affected as much as others, even though the reasons for the price explosions have no bearing on renewable energies. This is because all consumers:inside Energy from the same pool obtain. You can only influence with which form of energy this pool is filled. So if more people were to rely on renewable energies, we would be more crisis-proof and less dependent on other countries.
The federal government is currently working on various aid concepts. The dynamic situation is very fast moving, so there will be regular updates on this page or in our blog section.
FURTHER INFORMATION
This is what we have achieved together
By choosing a certified green electricity or biogas tariff, you are directly supporting the energy transition. For every kilowatt hour consumed, a fixed amount flows into the expansion of renewable energies - that's sustainable thinking.
Switch to a certified electricity or biogas tariff now
There are already several online comparison portals for electricity and gas rates. So what's the point of another one?
At the comparison portal of the environmental associations, consumers can compare high-quality and exclusively certified green electricity and biogas tariffs.
"vergleich-dich-gruen.de" offers you the opportunity to actively participate in an energy transition that is nature-friendly, decentralized, citizen-oriented, public welfare-oriented, fair and pollutant-free through your purchase decision.
