For years, the diocese has been committed to climate protection and has switched completely to green electricity. The self-generation through the solar system on the church administration building at Paulustor is a great example of ecologically conscious power supply.
The construction of the PV system was co-financed and supported by Green Electricity subsidies. Energy suppliers who offer a Green Electricity certified green electricity tariff are obliged to finance a fixed subsidy amount per kilowatt hour sold into new energy transition projects. This is the only way to ensure a supply from 100 % renewable energies in the future.
In addition to the construction of the solar plant, the diocese is providing financial support to encourage other parishes to purchase green electricity certified by RhönEnergie Fulda. To this end, the parishes can join a special framework agreement. In the meantime, around 370 church buildings are supplied. In this way, around 2,000 tons of climate-damaging CO2 are avoided.
Protecting the environment and the climate is a high priority for suppliers and consumers of Grüner Strom-certified green electricity. It's about being an ecologically aware consumer and having an offer for electricity generated without the use of fossil fuels such as coal. It is particularly pleasing that the Diocese of Fulda is not only setting a good example by purchasing certified green electricity, but is also encouraging other consumers to switch to genuine green electricity.
